The San Gabriel Mountains Trailbuilders
(SGMTB) is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 non-profit public service organization
dedicated, to constructing and maintaining hiking trails in the San Gabriel
Mountains Angeles National Forest (San Gabriel Mountains National Monument)
in Southern California.
We work the 1st, 3rd, and 5th Saturday of every month, and we work special
projects which are not scheduled. Please email us to get on to the mailing
list to keep informed about scheduled and special projects! Email Ben at

Although the Trailbuilders' primarily task is maintaining hiking and nature
trails throughout the Los Angeles Gateway District of the San Gabriel
Mountains, we also perform bridge building and repairs across hiking trails,
fire mitigation activities (such as removing combustibles around camp sites,)
removing or covering spray paint vandalism, and repairing or replacing
trail signs.
All volunteers receive extensive safety training and technical experience
working in the forest so that the work that we do is done safely and
professionally. We invite people to join us for our work efforts, whether
they are Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, youth groups, or individuals who want to
assist the outdoor community by repairing and maintaining hiking trails,
everyone is welcome! It's truly a great way to get exercise and enjoy
the outdoors. You not only receive healthy exercise but a wonderful sense of
self-worth by contributing to the preservation of the San Gabriel Mountain
Trails which are used and enjoyed by thousands of hikers each year.
Volunteers who wish to work with our organization are welcome!! All volunteers
will be supplied with the necessary tools, gloves, hard hats, safety glasses
and equipment for the that particular day.
Volunteers are required to wear a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, hat,
sturdy walking shoes, or hiking boots, sunglasses (optional), sunscreen,
water for the day, snacks and a lunch. Be prepared to work an 8-hour day.
All individuals under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult!
Transportation must be provided by the volunteer to the job site and back.

Occasionally, First Aid Preparedness Meetings are held, as well as Safety
Refresher Meetings, both presented by members of the US Forest Service.

on projects that we have performed in the past as well as up-coming
projects that volunteers are needed for. The web site also occasionally
contains information about potential
Girl Scout Gold Award projects and
Boy Scout Eagle Projects which are
